American Bully Puppies For Sale Can Make Wonderful Family Pets

By Betty Bennett

There is probably a perfect dog for every dog lover. Some people love small animals that curl up on their laps or beside them on the sofa. They may be attracted by the fact that these little canines don't require extensive exercise to be content. Others much prefer large athletic animals that love the outdoors and can accompany their owners on long jogs or bike rides. Still other individuals purchase pets for their ability to guard their families while maintaining loving relationships with household members. If this last description applies to you, there are American Bully puppies for sale you may be interested in.

This is a breed that was created by crossing the Pit Bull Terrier with the Stafford Terrier about twenty-five years ago. The breeder's goal was to produce a good family dog that mingled the characteristics of both the Pit Bull and the Stafford. Unfortunately these two breeds often create fear when they meet strangers because of their, sometimes undeserved, reputations as aggressive fighting dogs.

There is no doubt these animals have an aggressive appearance with their powerful chests and large heads. They are only medium size dogs however that do not generally grow to more than twenty-four inches in height. Because they are very muscular and strong, they may weigh in at as much as one hundred twenty pounds upon reaching adulthood.

Although similar breeds may have ferocious reputations, Bullies tend to be very loving and friendly dogs that are good with children and love to be the center of attention. Most of them have a calm demeanor and are eager to please. They are known for being very loyal to their owners. Bullies are usually full of confidence, but have plenty of patience.

The way animals are raised greatly influences the kind of adult the animal will become. Bullies need a firm hand and a firm, but gentle, owner who always maintains control. An owner who is consistent and makes sure the dog knows exactly what is considered acceptable behavior should have no trouble handling this pet. Without a firm hand, these animals can become aggressive and act out in ways that can have unwanted results. They are trainable animals because of their eagerness to please.

Bullies have plenty of energy and love to be active, but they don't require a lot of space to run and roam. Surprisingly, they can do very well in an urban apartment or condo as long as their owners are willing to take them on long walks a couple times a day. Cold weather is something most of these dogs would rather avoid. It may be difficult to get them to agree to much time outside when it's cold and unpleasant.

There are some unscrupulous breeders who give Bully puppies steroids to encourage muscle mass and strength. These individuals and the dogs they breed should be avoided. Once the drugs are out of its system, the dog's size will revert to normal, but it may suffer from the effects, such as joint and organ issues, for the rest of its life. These problems can also be passed from one generation to the next.

Bullies can make great pets. They are loving and companionable when they are treated gently but firmly.
