By Jason Campbell

Faux furs are synthetic fiber materials in which the purpose of production is for resembling the original fur. Clothing is the most common use for these materials. But aside from clothing, these have been used already for many different purposes which became very popular because there is already an increase in the promotion of animal rights. Some animal welfare organizations have also been claiming that these are using animal friendly materials for clothing.

To clean these fake furs may be done through the use of many different ways including by the hands, by the washing machine, and by the dry cleaner. The three methods will depend upon the provided specifications on an item. But when you are not really sure on the specifications, it would be better to directly ask the manufacturer for the avoidance of damaging the material. The following are the 3 methods and their steps to clean the faux fur bedspread properly.

Machine wash faux fur. Before you immediately wash the material, make sure to check its tag. Most of the items are being provided by the manufacturer with a tag wherein all the important specifications and instructions are written. Though it will depend on you whether you are going to follow those instructions or not, these will still include some important tips which you need to notice.

The contents of a tag would include about the washing instructions, if its color will fade out, or whether it would be fine to wash it the same as how colored items are washed. This may also contain some standardized symbols which will indicate how an item must be cared for. Therefore, a tag can be very useful for you to know what step you will do next.

Place your item in a washing machine. The fur must not be washed together with the other items. If part of the garment, it should be turned inside and out so that it will not be worn out or damaged. Check if the machine have the right settings. Using cold water is suggested and must set the machine to delicate wash cycle setting. Turn on your machine and add the mild laundry detergent.

And also, see to it that the setting of your machine is the least spin agitation. If the rinse cycle started, place a fabric softener and rinse it using cold water. And after the washing cycle, remove the bedspread, shake it for the removal of excess water. By rolling your item to a thick towel, the water may also be absorbed. Pull it carefully then turn it into the original dimension and shape for avoiding damage.

Hand wash the faux fur. See to it that right materials are being used in hand washing. A cold or a lukewarm water is suggested for use. With this, the shape and also the texture of furs will be maintained. A mild laundry soap must be used.

Another useful technique is spot cleaning. This technique can help the item to last longer and also maintain the original texture. Make use of mild detergent when cleaning the specific areas. When scrubbing, avoid on doing it too rough for avoiding some damage. Rinse with cold water and dry it.

Drying the fake fur. The best suggestion for this process rather than the use of electric dryer would be air drying. An areas that is well ventilated is recommended for air drying. The outside area would be better and adding a fan as well to speed the drying process.
