Dealing With Fire Damage

By Steven McBride

When a fire breaks out inside someones home, people have to think in split second decision timing. Some things you can control and other things you can not control. No matter how the fire happened, there are steps that need to be taken in order to make sure your family is safe and then to best repair your home. No one likes to plan for a fire upfront, but it sure does help if you do ever run into such an event.

Don't be the person who has no plan for what to do if a fire should hit. What exactly do I do if I see flames in the kitchen? Who do I call first? Where should my wife and kids go? All these are questions you need to have answered up front, so you can be on top of things if a fire should happen. Lots of aspects you should be aware of, even if you do not own your own home. It is best to have this knowledge upfront!

Nobody ever thinks about a fire breaking out in their home. It is something most people just would rather not think about. But when an event like that does take place, most people do not know where to begin. What are the proper steps to take when putting out a fire? Who should I call first? Does my family have a plan in case an emergency, like a fire, takes place. These are all things that you should be aware of, whether you rent or own your own home. Sometimes things happen, and we have some decisions to make.

One of the first places you should think about when a fire happens is where the extinguisher is located. It is best to replace your fire extinguisher every two to four years because they begin to not work properly with age. Once you have made sure you family is safe, then you try and handle the fire yourself.

Have your game plan ready for if a fire occurs. Call 911 and let them know what is going on at your house. Take any advice they give you or your family and know that if you can not put out the fire by yourself that help is on the way. Over the years, the response time for the fire department is around ten minutes, which is fast!

Now that you have put the fire out and the fire department is gone who do you call for help? There are plenty of options, but what is the right one for you? Do I go with who the insurance company picks out or should I find the company myself? All of these are very good questions considering the occasion.

Be sure to always have the number to a restoration company at your disposal. They will know every route to take to get your home back to the way it was before you had a fire! That is what is important.

Lastly, take a step back and let the professionals do what they do best. This is why they do this for a living. Let them take the burden off your hands and trust the company you call. That is why it is important to have the knowledge of a trust worthy company before the accident happens.
