Modern Living Room And Modern Living Room Furniture

By Darren Hartley

A contemporary style is what a modern living room design infuses into a home space. The style, however, still retains the warmth and comfort of the living area. Regardless of whether the design is done to attract buyers, to entertain friends or to just enjoy some peace and quiet, a modern aesthetic is relatively simple to achieve with just some basic design know-how.

The walls of a modern living room use soft, light and neutral colors. White, cream and beige walls are said to be staples of modern living room design. Modern design minimizes dynamic pops of color for visual interest. The walls serve as a neutral palette. This makes for easier standing out of focal artwork and modern living room furniture.

To the extent of utilizing bare concrete floors, the modern living room floors must be kept neutral and nondescript. The two major objectives of neutral-colored floor is to take the focus off and the surface and to allow important modern living room furniture, artwork or accessories to be the ones capturing the eye.

Not to be used in a modern living room are overly shaggy carpets and intensely bright colored rugs. Modern living room furniture may be rigidly shaped while remaining comfortable. This furniture may include coffee tables and sofas with straight lines and strong geometric shapes.

Symmetrical pieces are what consist the major modern living room furniture. On the market are many modern sofas that are surprisingly comfortable in their minimalistic shapes and rigid looks. Throw pillows may be added to the modern living room design for that extra pop of colors and occasional asymmetry.

Modern living room furniture should consist of darker colors to provide stark contrast to the white walls for designs with the furniture pieces as a focal point. For designs with the artwork as the focal point, the corresponding modern living furniture used should consist of lighter colors.

The personality of the homeowner comes out in the artwork that he displays in his modern living room. From muticolored abstract to monochromatic minimalist artwork, modern artwork varies widely in its offering of a number of interesting styles.
