Choosing A Contractor For A Roof Repair Kansas City

By Tammie Caldwell

The day started off like any other, and while getting dressed, you notice a wet dark spot on the ceiling. You are new in town and have no friends and only know a few people at a new job you just started. Now you have another thing to add to your already full To Do List. Here are six suggestions on finding a reputable roof repair Kansas City, KS.

Call more than a couple of candidates with a list of questions that begin with asking for their full name and address. If they have a residence separate from business, ask for that address, too. Get at least two phone numbers and an emergency number just in case no one answers the other lines.

Ask to see their roofing contractor's license, or at least a copy of it. Write down the license number and any other pertinent information such as when it expires. Also, have them give you the name of their insurance agent and phone number. Reputable contractors often present a folder with all this information clearly printed and easy to find.

Arm yourself with some information of your own, such as visiting your local hardware stores to find out the life expectancy of your current roofing material. Then, while talking to your potential candidates, ask them the same question. Their answer should match that of the manufacturer. If it does not, thank them for their assistance and hang up. Then call the next contractor on your list of possibilities.

Qualified Roofers who do good work have no problem with offering a warranty. However, you need to know who will follow through on that warranty if something happens to the contractor. Explain to them you need the name and contact information for the person in charge of following through on their behalf. Bad things to happen to good people and you need assurance someone will make good on the warranty.

Some contractors use subcontractors, so get their name and contact phone number. Ask the contractor why he subcontracts and insist on a copy of the contract between himself and any other parties involved in doing the work. You must feel assured that someone is responsible for correctly doing the repairs, and without the information of who did the work, you could end up without any recourse.

Be sure to ask for references, especially if you are new in town. Roofers who have good reputations have no problem with you asking other people if they are satisfied with the quality of workmanship. Names and phone numbers are sufficient for the time being, but make sure you follow through in contacting them. Just be business-like and listen to what they say about the contractor and his crew.

Homeownership has its responsibilities and city codes often make inspections to determine if your property is sound and fit for human habitation. It is also your responsibility to contract reputable businesses who do the job right the first time. Take a little time to investigate before work begins and save a lot of money and heartache.
