Parenting Principles That You Should Know And Practice Everyday

By Marlyn Parker

Being a parent is always a mixture of joys and challenges, and all parents have days when they wish their children came with an owner's manual. Without further ado, let's examine some parenting tactics that can prove useful in your day to day experiences as a parent. For decades experts have gone back and forth in regard to which type of parenting skill works the best and it seems the only place they can find common ground is to make sure that you have at least some interaction with your children.

If you choose to be a permissive parent, or a strict parent, it is always good to stick with one strategy and always involve yourself with your kids in the things that they do so that they know that you care.

The reason you need to do this is that if you respond in an angry way, it is not going to help the predicament. Even if it's a situation where the child needs to be disciplined, it's best to do this in a rational state of mind rather than when you're out of control.

There are definitely ways that you could change your child's behavior and get them to mind you a little better. One of the most effective ways to handle this is to give the child some choices. Any choice that you give your child will give them the power to make the right decision, something you want them to learn. Let's say you just planted your garden and your child is out there with the giant shovel.

Every parent needs advice, support or another adult to talk to sometimes. Try to work things out with your partner so that responsibilities are shared as much as possible. There's always someone who can help if you look for it -if not your partner, then perhaps a friend or family member; if not these, there are many support groups for parents in various situations. The best parents are those who recognize when they need help and learn how to ask for it. The best time to set up a support network is before you desperately need it. Needing help or advice doesn't mean you're not competent as a parent, only that you're human. Sometimes someone else can offer a fresh point of view and give you a useful suggestion. While there's no simple rule to govern all situations you face as a parent, it's good to have some guiding principles. So respond to every situation as it arises and try to learn from your experiences. It can be useful to study various theories about parenting, but finally you have to make up your own mind about what's best.
