By Karina Frost

If you are trying to find the perfect dog for your family, maybe you should consider this dog. Small enough for the smallest apartment, but full of energy and always ready to play, Jack Russel terrier might be the perfect choice for you. Find reliable Jack Russell breeders in California and check these adorable little puppies on their sites.

There are three recognized types of Jack Russell terriers, and one of them, called Parson Russell, or American type, is considered as separate breed, although it shares the same ancestors. Other two types, Irish and English type, belong to the same breed. All types are equally active, playful and funny, affectionate and intelligent.

Lovely and affectionate, Russell terriers are mostly white, with black, brown or tan markings. Brindle markings are really rare, but may occur. Their hair is short and smooth, rough or broken coated and really easy to maintain. Show dogs have to be professionally groomed. Although most of them enjoy having a bath, you shouldn't bathe them unless it is necessary.

Well maintained dogs will live well over fifteen years. Jack Russell terriers weigh up to eighteen pounds, and their height is under fifteen inches. They don't have many health problems, but some can be inherited, for example eyes diseases. That's why it is so important to choose a reliable breeder. They can also be prone to hip problems and sometimes to mast cell tumors.

All terriers are highly active dogs. They require daily brisk walks and a large portion of exercise to spend their immense energy. Even if you live in a house and have a large yard for your dog to play, it is still advisable to take him for a walk at least once a day. It will certainly make your life easier. If you need to leave your dog alone in the house for some time, make sure to take him for a walk before you leave.

Your dog needs a strong pack leader, or he will try to become one. It is very important to make him understand that there are some limitations he has to respect. Thanks to his high intelligence, you will enjoy training this dog. He can learn all kinds of tricks. In any case, start training him very early and you will avoid the forming of so called small dog syndrome.

Terrier can be stubborn, obsessive barker and even aggressive if you don't train him well. This dog possesses enormous amount of energy to spend, and a mind of his own. He usually has very strong characters and needs a strong pack leader. If you aren't prepared for this, maybe you should choose another breed, more suitable for your living style.

This adorable small dog is just perfect for active individuals, but also makes really great family dog. Active and playful, he makes very good company for your children, but if you already have cats or some other pets, it is quite possible they won't become the best friends. Beautiful and interesting, easy trainable and affectionate, these dogs are really special.
