Ways To Fix Bleach Stain On Carpet

By Annabelle Holman

In the course of everyday life accidents can happen to the most careful of people. Around the house these accidents can cause serious damage to the homes we live in. Most commonly things are dropped or spilt on floors or furniture causing discolorations to appear. Color loss is one of the main reasons to explore how to fix bleach stain on carpet.

One of the first things that is suggested when a spill occurs is containment by blotting the affected area with absorbent cloths. This will help to keep the liquid from spreading further and creating a larger spot that must be dealt with. When these spills occur the color is stripped from the carpets anywhere the fabric gets wet.

Some sources suggest that color can be duplicated with acrylic paints that can be purchased at craft stores. They suggest that a sample be taken from a hidden area such as a closet and taken to the store. You will want to purchase a color closest to your sample plus a couple of shades both lighter and darker. When you have matched the color of the carpets they suggest that you paint the spot focusing on each fiber individually. This method may need touch up occasionally but should work well on small areas.

Another similar method of treating these spots calls for the use of crayons to reinstate the color that was lost. Coloring the fibers by hand will take some time and usually proves to be a temporary solution. The wax may also compromise the fibers and effect future efforts. Permanent marking pens can also offer a temporary answer for this problem. Steam cleaning the carpeting may remove the inks from the fibers causing you to need to touch up the spot each time.

Another method involves a do it yourself dye kit that can be purchased online or in some retail outlets. There are several different types of these kits available to the public. Each claims to be the best on the market but one says that any color can be matched by using three primary colors only. They provide explicit instructions and technical advice to those customers who use their product.

Dying carpeting is not a new concept. For years steam cleaning companies have offered this service for their customers. They usually prefer to dye the entire room when they perform this service but many can also spot dye your carpeting. The problems you may see with this service involves damaged areas absorbing more dye than areas that have not been damaged by bleach.

There is also an option to replace the damaged area from remnants left over after installation. This works best with larger areas and instructions can be obtained on line or from professional carpet layers. The adhesives and nap must be installed properly or it will look like a patch has been set into the flooring.

Finally, the easiest solution may be to place a rug or chair over the spot and work around it when decorating. This may be the last ditch solution for you when all else fails.
