Advice On Hiring Atlanta Residential Roof Replacement Services

By Andrew B. Spates

If you listen to all the horror stories, hiring someone to replace or repair your house roof can be quite a task. If you go wrong at the start and select the wrong people, it can be a very expensive mistake. Following some good practice advice helps to ensure you get the best person for the job.

It is not every day that you need the services of a roofing company, so ask people you know have recently had work done on their roof, if they would recommend the company they used. Ask how they would rate the quality of the work and if they were satisfied with the service they received. Ask if their contractor completed their Atlanta residential roof replacement on schedule.

Building insurance generally covers the cost of repairs for damage to the structure of your building. Always check your building insurance policy and talk to your insurer before committing to work being carried out. Your insurer can clarify any terms and conditions in your policy in regards to the work required. You need to know how much of the costs the insurance company will cover.

Insurance companies generally hold a list of roofers and other trades people that they recommend their clients to use for work to be carried out under their insurance policy. They will ask you to obtain a minimum of three quotes for comparison. When you contact the roofer to request a quote for the work, check that they provide a quote free of charge.

You might expect that three quotes for the same work and to the same specification would be similar in cost. Any that are a lot cheaper may not provide you with a full breakdown of their costs, or there may be costs missing which come to light once the work starts. At the other end of the costs scale any quote that is a lot more than the others, could be because of inflated costs for materials and or labor.

You may be required to provide a deposit before any replacement roofing work starts. The amount required for a deposit and a schedule of payments should be agreed and included in the written contract. Usually the final payment should not be made until all work is completed and passed by the building inspectors.

In addition to the financial details, the project timescales need to be clearly stated in the contract. Request written confirmation that the company has a sufficient level of liability and workers compensation insurance in case of accidents or delays. As with all contracts for services you should understand the small print.
