Instructions

List of Essential Materials you need:

  • Nails & Hammer
  • Skill saw & a chainsaw
  • Tape measure & Square
  • Ladder
  • Tarp
  • Shingles & Plywood
  • Tar paper
  • Chalk

Roof Repairs Cut away the tree in sections using a chainsaw. Check each cut before making it to determine where the limb or piece of tree will fall. Make certain you do no further damage to the structure as you remove the tree. Once the tree is removed, spread a thick plastic tarp over the damaged area and secure it in place with nails or large staples. This will help prevent further water damage until repairs can be made.

Examine the damaged part. In your initial inspection you will be attempting to determine the size of the damaged area and if any rafters or joists were damaged. Your roof will in all likelihood be covered with 4 foot by 8 foot plywood sheets beneath the roofing material. Make sure that every edge of the material under the roof is marked with a chalk.

Remove the damaged areas of roofing. The entire sheet must be replaced if the whole thing is extremely damaged. Minimal repairs or minimal plywood replacement must be done if only one edge is damaged. Using this as your guide, remove all shingles and black tar paper from the area.

Mark the partial sections of plywood for cutting. Measure to the next rafter and mark the center of the rafter. Using the full width of the square board mark a straight line. Make it sure that when you cut the plywood using the chainsaw, you cut through the straight line. The rafter?s half is exposed after the cut, making it easy for you to put the new sheet of plywood.

Replace all full sections of plywood first, then measure and cut all partial pieces. Nail each section to their right place. After nailing the plywood, cover it with a tar paper.

New asphalt shingle must be put for the completion of the repairs. The reparation?s last stage is the installation of new roof shingles. The lowest are will be filled first with new shingles. The new shingles will need to overlap the existing shingles to form a water tight seal. Remove any old partial shingles and install full shingles in their place. Use a ladder in getting to your roof. When you reach the old shingles you will need to secure the new shingles below the old ones to insure no leaks occur.

Safety Tips Check the attic area for possible water damage to insulation or other items. The restoration of the damage wet insulation must be done with the roof repairs spontaneously.

Make it sure that you have wear your eye and hearing gears in using your chainsaw.
