Commercial Refrigerator Gaskets Maintenance Tips

By Matthew Patterson

Refrigerator gaskets refer to the elastic strip of refrigerators that effectively seal the cool air stored inside the freezer. Commercial refrigerator gaskets play a very crucial role in serving as temperature control holding the function of keeping the inside cold and the food fresh. Because of its function, keeping it free from defects is an absolute must to make sure things remain cool inside otherwise this will leave your machine almost ineffective.

When a refrigerator gasket starts to exhibit early signs of deterioration such as cracks and breaks, a noticeable drop in cold breeze quality can be expected. Although by design the material it was made from is strong and elastic, it is still prone to damages. It may look like replacing it can be easy and cheap too, but exercising care is still a must. To do this, you may want to keep in mind the following tips.

To help restore its elasticity, apply petroleum jelly. It may be hard to believe, but applying petroleum jelly is actually considered to be an effective home remedy that can be used to help restore its elasticity back. This is because of the constant stress your rubber seal is subject to all the time. When you apply petroleum to it, it alleviates the stress by softening the rubber. It is also an effective time saver too as it removes the need to manually take out the things you have stored inside it just to have it cleaned.

Completely avoid using bleach as cleaning formula to minimize its deterioration process. Regardless if you are using diluted or undiluted, never use any cleaner that comes with bleach property when you clean its rubber seal. The reason for this is because it weakens the rubber like property of the seal making it prone to cracks. If you are cleaning it because of molds and dews, try using hydrogen peroxide instead.

Use soap water and sponge in cleaning your gasket to minimize damages. Soap and water combined with a sponge is actually the most effective cleaning set that can be used to clean the rubber seal of your refrigerator as it not only removes dirt and crumbs, but molds and dews as well. To minimize the need to regularly maintain or replace your rubber seal, try cleaning it at least every six months. After washing it, use a dry towel to remove the water.

Always make sure to regularly inspect the rubber seal of your machine every month. No matter how careful you are with it, this rubber seal is still no immune to damage due to several factors. Although it is strongly advised to clean it at least every four to six months, you will be able to catch problematic symptoms much sooner by doing monthly checks.

If replacing your refrigerator gaskets is totally in need, make sure to buy the parts only from a reliable store in New York to keep you away from buying a second rate replacement. You can also try asking your local technician for direction where to you can buy one. You need to be extra cautious in choosing though to make sure you will not end up buying this again.

If you are unsure how the whole seal replacement procedure is done, ask for professional help. While replacing it is consumer accessible, you may end up causing more harm to the machine than good if you are completely clueless. Instead, contact your local technician to fix it for you then feel free to observe so you will know next time how it is done.
