Guidelines On Furniture Refinishing Massachusetts

By Sandra Stewart

As people work, it is expected of them to at least save in order to also enjoy a better life in future. This is done by depositing part of their income as savings for future purposes. In certain circumstances, one can save by not buying a new product and instead refinishing it. In Hudson, MA, given as an example of furniture refinishing Massachusetts, the guidelines presented below can be used.

The first step involved is through removal of the old finish. The step is often tedious because of the work that one will have to do in order to complete the process. One can decide to use the sanding technique which involves using a sand paper to get rid of finish that has remained. Then removal of any paint or stains using a higher grit of sand paper. Another technique is through the use of chemical strippers where the chemical is applied to get rid any old finish.

The second process is by preparing the wood. One will have to use a sand paper on the wood in order to make smooth the rough places and get rid of any old finish that was left. This is despite having used the chemical stripper technique in the beginning. Afterwards, one will still use sand with grain in order to make the complete furniture smooth.

Furniture can be made up of open grains or tight grains. Those made up of open grains will want grain fillers. However, those made up of tight grains will not require grain fillers. Despite requiring application of grain fillers, one will have to use a brush in order to apply it. Sometimes, the filler can be in excess thus using a plastic scrap to remove any surplus. Once the furniture has dried, it will be sanded with grain.

The wood will then enter the final step for staining which is application of sanding sealer. This will actually aid the wood to stain evenly across the whole surface area. The process will further involve application of a hefty coat which after soaking in the excess, it will be removed by a fresh rag.

Nevertheless, one is advised that in staining he or she can use different products. There is the oil or water based where majority of the people tend to opt for the oil based because of its lasting effect. Still in staining application one can opt for the gel stain. However, it is advised to follow directions given on the products.

In the last process, one will have to be keen on the particulars if he or she expects the output to be of quality. The items used in the whole process have the most effect on the output. Other factors that may be considered as minor include the skill used and kind of finish used.

Having followed these steps, the furniture will have new life and have a presentable appearance. This will enhance durability and more so help one save money instead of always having to buy new furniture after a short period of time.
