Basement Mold Removal Is A Dangerous Endeavor

By Patty Goff

A very bad benefit of modern homes and offices buildings, with everything sealed up tight for heating and air conditioning purposes, is no cross ventilation with fresh air. This creates a problem that only proper ducting with the appropriate introduction of fresh air can solve. Until then, there is always a problem of molds in warm, wet areas. One of the areas this growth can catch hold is in the basement. When this happens, basement mold removal is something that should be conducted by the professionals trained for this.

Leaking pipes are often the culprit as to how this growth begins. The water that comes from these pipes can get into the wall boards, ceilings and furniture. This can come from the main water supply line or from any of the pipes located on upper floors. This will host the molds and the warm, moist condition will allow it to grow and travel to other areas.

A way to identify the presence of this, often toxic, organism is to take a good smell in the area. If you find a earthy, damp smell, you might have the beginnings of a dangerous condition. Since some of this growth can be inside the drywall it is important to find out what is happening inside of your walls.

A mold remediation company is the best choice for doing this kind of work. They have the training and experience as well as the tools and equipment to perform this work safely. This equipment can sniff out the dangerous elements and point the way to where further inspection and tear outs must be done.

Doing this yourself is not the best idea without some training and the appropriate garments. The professionals will have full body suits. They will have masks and a breathing apparatus. They will also be able to dispose of the material they remove due to the permits necessary. These permits are not allowed to be given to non licensed individuals.

The inspection will locate the problem areas and they can get to work. They may need to tear out walls and or ceilings. They may need to rip up all of the carpeting. They will certainly need to take all furniture fabric and contain it for disposal. Wood pieces can not be cleaned properly if affected and all building materials thus affected can not be efficiently cleaned either.

Finding a little mold in a bathroom or on the floor can be cleaned up, or removed, with a little bleach and careful attention to clean an area larger than what is affected. If it is in or under the tiles in a room, these can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled with the proper level of grout. Any mold growth that is under the floor, outside of the walls or above the ceiling should be assigned to the professionals.

Molds can harm people and pets. They can create, within your home, a dangerous place to live. The professionals that have the training for this are available and should be called when this is suspected. The costs are not cheap, the time spent doing this is fairly short and the hotel room you may need to stay in can also be exciting.
